About The Work
Twitter is a composition which depicts the moments before, during and after sunrise in a forest. Involved in the piece are: an audio track which will be diffused (recording of dawn chorus), a video which will be projected (forest filmed at dawn for a dawn chorus), many flautists who read from a score and use their voices (imitating and connecting with the recorded dawn chorus), and the audience who also use their voices. On top of this, the performers and audience will also diffuse the audio track on their smartphones/devices. The piece develops nature/ornithological listening and improvisation skills, and is freely lead by a conductor in the spirit of sound-painting. The music is an awakening of a forest at dawn, something that happens everyday, something that a lot of us have lost touch with in contemporary society.
The performers in this piece are flautists of any age or level. Any type of flute is welcome to be used in the performance, from piccolo to contrabass flute, and from modern to traditional flutes. The piece is performable by any number of Flautists/Flute Choirs. Creative interpretations are very welcome, and a performance with Solo Flute is even technically possible. It is desirable though to work with at least 10-15 players. The idea is to create a texture of sound which connects with the recording of the dawn chorus that we hear together with the film part. The more flautists that are involved, the more enriching the experience will be for everyone.
